Susan has selected a varied group of songs, some of which surprised me -- but each one complements her smoky, expressive style in its own way. I loved Skeeter Davis's version of "The End of the World" years ago just as Susan says she did, and Susan's treatment is equally as lovely and moving. Her producers have evidently chosen top musicians and arrangers -- the soaring strings, simple guitar, and dramatic low throb of drum all provide a thrilling but understated background for this gifted lady. "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" are sung in simple, quiet fashion, much like the faith they express so eloquently. What distinguishes Susan's voice from the many other beautiful ones out there? She embraces each song, each phrase, and makes it her personal testament, much like Sinatra did.
