I really enjoyed this CD. She has a terrific voice - and it was nice to hear her sing something besides her "winning" song. I did find some of her choices a bit odd - like Daydream Believer - I wouldn't have seen Susan Boyle as a Monkee fan but overall a really excellent job!Get more detail about I Dreamed A Dream.

Love Susan Boyle's voice, but found it a bit of an odd combination of songs -- religious with romantic. VERY much enjoyed her notes in the CD booklet -- also VERY happy to have the words, as unfamiliar song words were hard to decipher.Get more detail about I Dreamed A Dream.

I didn't expect to hear that voice when I heard "Cry Me a River"!!! She has such a beautiful voice. I would love to see her do a CD with 40, 50, 60's songs. She's amazing. I was shocked. I don't watch "Idol", so she blew me away!! I hope good things come her way.Get more detail about I Dreamed A Dream.

A lovely collection of music. Boyle has more range than I expected and I much enjoyed the songs that displayed this. "Wild Horses" is a really nice, unexpected piece. "Cry Me a River" was also nicely done. And, of course, the title song is a reprise of what made her known around the world in the first place. I like its arrangement and heartfelt delivery.
I think the best aspect of this album is the really spot-on musical arrangements that surround her voice.
The four stars come from the inclusion of one or two tracks that, though probably dear to her heart, didn't really fit with this album in my view.Get more detail about I Dreamed A Dream.

It is a nice mellow cd, however I was very disappointed. The songs chosen for her I know from all original artists, however she does not give any emotion to the songs. I was quite disappointed with the overall cd. Played it once and gave it away since I would not care to listen to it again.Get more detail about I Dreamed A Dream.

Order Double Booked
I recently purchased Robert Glasper's newest album Double Booked pretty much on a whim. I had never heard his music or really heard of him aside from his name mentioned here & there in Jazztimes magazine. Well let me tell you I was more than happy that I had picked this up, within an hour that same day I picked up Glaspers previous Blue Note cd In My Element and downloaded his live 2nd set from bonnaroo 2007. Each album was great. Anyway Double Booked is actually two facets of Glasper's music. The first half of the album is an acoustic piano jazz trio with Vicente Archer on acoustic bass & Chris Dave on drums and the second half is what Robert calls The Robert Glasper Experiment with ?uestlove from the Roots at the drums and as creative counterpart, this music is more electrified and features vocals and rapper Mos Def. I'm not entirely sure of the whole lineup for the Experiment. The music is a hybrid of experimental hip hop & acoustic jazz that draws on studio production techniques to great effect. They do a original take on Herbie Hancock's Butterfly featuring vocoder vocals & a different arrangment than usual. I personally fell that the experiment is cool but still in the experimental phase trying to soildifie their sound and falls alittle short overall compositionally. I prefer the trio half of the disc. Glasper has had much more time in this area to prefect his methods & approach to the jazz piano trio. He's hard to put a label on soundwise its definitely jazz but with R&B and pop overtones that are subtle enough to invite the listener and make the music that much more accessible. Fans of this album be sure to delve into Glasper's back log of albums on Blue Note his 1st Canvas & In My Element are great. Also the Bonnaroo live set is awesome! The trio mates are killing Chris Dave is a great drummer with a original sound & feel. Vicente Archer is a soild groove meister offering rock soild support. Check out these fantastic young jazzers. Purchase Double Booked
When the talented Texas-born pianist, who straddles jazz and hip-hop, discovered that both his bands were booked on the same night - his jazz trio and hip hop oriented combo 'Experiment' - the idea for "Doubled-Booked" took seed. The title comes from a literal double booking when Terence Blanchard and Ahmir ?uestlove Thompson both wanted the respective bands on the same night, but Glaspar's real aim is to underline the fact that both musical forms are equally important to him, and equally central in what he does.
So "le pianist du jour" Glasper puts them both on the same joint - his third album for Blue Note.
Few artists embody the bond between hard bop jazz and hip hop culture with as much groove, panache and down-home wittiness as Robert Glasper.
This release showcases his reach across two ensembles: his acoustic trio and the fusion-fuelled Experiment. There's no real division: both are informed by the same sensibility. Circular rhythms intrude into the acoustic set and Glasper's method of seeking out the essence of a tune is just as evident on the Experiment cuts.
While the two segments of the record are notably different, the influences also leak into each other, and both bands are linked by his incisive and inventive piano playing. Most of the music is his own, although the trio serve up their own distinctive interpretation of Monk's "Think Of One", and the Experiment segment includes their take on Herbie Hancock's "Butterfly".
Each 'half' of the album has Glasper summoned by a different voicemail (jazz legend Terence Blanchard then The Roots' beatmaster ?uestlove), and each resounds with a distinct live energy.
The first half features his jazz trio with bassist Vincent Archer and drummer Chris Dave, the rest is by his hip-hop-based Experiment band, with guest vocals from Bilal and Mos Def.
The acoustic side proves more soulful and experimental, thanks to the rhythmic density of Glasper's clustered repetitions and the expert drum and bass team of Chris Dave and Vicente Archer. In contrast, Mos Def and Bilal singing through vocoders can seem clichéd.
The album is supposed to fuse his two interests but only once does this occur: on "4eva" featuring rapper Mos Def.
The rest skips between piano-led post-bop and the blissed-out, soul-jazz of Roy Ayres and Herbie Hancock - the latter's Seventies' composition "Butterfly" is playfully read here.
Everybody involved sounds like they 'get it' with gusto, and music fans should do the same. So, have fun and enjoy!
The album debuts at # 7 of the Billboard Top Jazz Album.
