I received the Susan Boyle CD for Christmas after listening to her performance on YouTube a 100 times. I didn't listen to the CD until last night because I wanted to wait for the right moment. But I shouldn't have bothered to wait as I was very disappointed by the album.
The voice on the album sounds nothing like Susan Boyle. Instead of the clear but mature voice I had come to expect, it was a fluttering sounding voice of a 20 year old. To me she sounded a lot like an early Madonna. The choice of songs on the album was interesting and I would have loved to hear the real Susan Boyle do them. Daydream Believer is a particular favorite but this version sounds like a breathless teenager, not a world weary woman who has been given a new chance.
I probably would like the album well enough on its own if it was by another singer but I can't listen to it now without being bothered by the disconnect between the voice on this album, which is much too high, and the wonderful performance on British TV.Get more detail about I Dreamed A Dream.
