Thanks to media publicity, almost everyone knows Susan Boyle has a great voice. High expectations probably set me up for disappointment when I listened to this CD. The background is too loud for the soloist's voice, giving the impression she is much weaker that she is. The background also sounds pretentious, as if the CD's creators wanted to create an artificial aura of greatness. This attempt had the effect of muffling Susan Boyle's actual greatness.
Susan Boyle also sounds as if she was overcoached. In many cases, this makes her sound a bit unlike herself. I was especially disappointed by her rendition of "Cry Me a River." In this wonderful song, it sounds as if she was coached to sound like a lovesick American Southern girl (as if the real Susan Boyle is not good enough). The CD suggests she should be allowed to be herself in the future, not an imitation sultry siren.
I hope to find a better Susan Boyle CD in the future.Get more detail about I Dreamed A Dream.
